ONLINE BILINGUALISM COURSE: LANGUAGE & COGNITION
This is a brand new course developed by three specialists for language teachers that seek preparation for bilingual education programs. Participants will have classes about bilingualism under the studies of Neuroscience and Applied Linguistics where each completes the other so that educators have a full understanding of L2 acquisition process and learning. Professor André Hedlund
André Hedlund is a Chevening Scholar from Brazil, studying MSc in Psychology of Education at the University of Bristol in the UK, and a pedagogical consultant for National Geographic Learning. He has been an EFL teacher for over 15 years and has worked both as an academic coordinator and a CamLa (Cambridge and Michigan Language Assessments) examiner at a Brazilian Binational Center.
He is the president of Partners of the Americas Goiás (POA-GO) and the representative of the BRAZ-TESOL’s Mind, Brain, and Education Special Interest Group in the Midwest. With POA-GO, André has designed and coordinated an 80-hour competency-based immersion English training program, being directly in charge of hiring, creating and delivering classes to 300 public high school students who received scholarships from the Goiás Without Borders program to study in the USA.
André has also been offering courses, workshops, and lectures in Brazil and abroad (including InnovateELT in Spain and ELTAM in Montenegro) and discusses education, methodology, and neuroscience/psychology-related topics on his blog. With Educational Development Courses (#edcrocks), André uses social media and online platforms to offer professional development for teachers and education professionals.
Professor Rodolfo Mattiello
Rodolfo Mattiello holds a BA in Languages of Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Campinas and a Masters in Applied Linguistics of the University of Edinburgh with specialization in Language Acquisition under the Usage-based perspective with interest in Cognitive Linguistics. He is also the founder of Mattiello Consultoria Acadêmica, a center for teachers’ development that offers varied courses for English teachers and BELíngue, an online English school.
He has been working as an English teacher since 2002 with experience in public and private schools, language centers and also as a Coordinator, being responsible for the selection process of new teachers, observing lessons, consolidating a teaching methodology among teachers. Rodolfo holds a specialization degree in Lesson Planning of University of Oregon, Technology in L2 Classes of Iowa State University and he also co-authored the book ‘Formação de Professores’ (Paco Editorial, 2016).
Rodolfo is specialized in Grammar Teaching from Cambridge University, member of BRAZ-TESOL’s Advisory Council (2018-2020) for the state of São Paulo and in 2017 he presented his poster of his PhD research proposal in the University of Bern, Switzerland with the project ‘Pragmatics in Wernicke’s aphasia speech: understanding how languages (re)develop’.
